Active Directory Software

The inception of the Internet has given people the opportunity to perform many different tasks and functions that were never even thought of in the past. The only problem with all of this technology is that many of the domains and features all operate separately from each other. This is why active directory software was created.

An active directory is essentially a directory service. When a person refers to a directory service, they are referring to the two things that the service does.

A directory is a place where information about different users and resources is stored and a service is something that lets the user access the different resources that are listed in the directory. This is a resource that people can use to manage all of the different elements of their networks.

Some of the different items that a person will be able to manage with active directory softwareare different computers, users, groups, security policies, domains, and any other type of user-defined program.

Professional active directory softwareis a way for people to meld different NT services that have operated separately in the past. A directory is created around a specific domain name system and through a lightweight directory access protocol. The domain name system is used because this is the standard that the Internet revolves around and the lightweight directory access protocol is used because most vendors support it.

Active directories are implemented using the Microsoft Management Console. The two most important goals of any active directory software program are for users to be able to access all of their resources with a single login and for administrators to be able to oversee both resources and users from a central location.
